Tinnitus Advice

Tinnitus is a medical term for any noise that people have in one ear, both ears, or in their head. These sounds do not come from outside the head. Some of the known causes of tinnitus include, noise exposure, ear infections, stress and circulation / blood disorders.

Many people with tinnitus also have a hearing loss of some degree. If you are worried about your tinnitus you should see your GP who may refer you on to an ENT consultant or tinnitus specialist clinic.

We can point you in the right direction in terms of organisations, publications and products that will help manage your tinnitus. Free hand outs are available on topics: All About Tinnitus, Self-Help for Tinnitus; Relaxation; Sound Therapy; and on getting a good night’s sleep. These are some of the publications from the BTA (British Tinnitus Association)

At least three hearing aid manufacturers now have hearing aids with a dedicated tinnitus management programme within them. Clearsound hearing can provide more information upon request.
